The Norman Howard School is unique – we like to say, exceptional – the only school of its kind in our region. In addition to a nonprofit organization and private school, we are a New York State Education Department (NYSED) approved Special Education Program, subject to comply with Federal and State laws and regulations affecting the provision of special education programs and services for students with disabilities. This fall, we completed a Comprehensive Review by NYSED Office of Special Education in order to determine our compliance in Delivery of Special Education Programs and Services, Behavioral Interventions, Discipline/Suspension, and Operation of the School Program. The review comprised of:
Review of a representative sample of records of 20 students
Multiple classroom visitations
Review of program policies and procedures
Interviews with students, staff, and parents
Survey of school districts that place students
It is with much pride that we share that The Norman Howard School was found to be in full compliance with absolutely no citations! It was clear to the reviewer that we are “the right fit” for the students we serve. We are pleased to provide a high quality nonpublic alternative for students with special learning needs and take great care in upholding our effective model that consistently meets the needs of our students. Special thanks to our dedicated faculty and staff for their commitment to our program!
