In addition to providing engaging and effective ELA and Writing coursework for all students, The Norman Howard School's esteemed English Department has been hard at work, collaborating with BOCES Office of School Improvement. These efforts were undertaken in 2019 by NHS, English Department Chair, Leigh Rader, and Christine Treasure (BOCES), to enhance and improve the curriculum for all NHS students.
Focus of work included introducing additional, culturally responsive literature, aligning instruction to new educational standards, integration of the UNRAVEL strategy, use of ATLAS assessment, leveraging the Frayer Model of vocabulary development, and teaching essay writing approaches.
